Information and Guidance Policy

Statement of service

The College provides free, accessible, comprehensive, impartial, up-to-date learner focussed information, advice and guidance (IAG) to enable all young people and adults to make informed decisions.

Information will cover relevant personal, social, emotional and career development plus financial information and will be provided by professional and knowledgeable staff.

Availability of service

The service is available to potential students and all current students who have enrolled on full and part-time courses both college and work based.

A range of styles of communication will be utilised and these will be adapted to suit learners’ needs and abilities.  We will also meet the requirements of any future legislation.

Equality of Opportunity

The College is committed to ensuring the equality of opportunity and treatment of all students.  It recognises the worth of every individual and actively promotes equal opportunities for all, in line with current legislation on gender, race and disability equality.

Confidentiality of information

The college keeps to requirements of the Data Protection Act.

Information about students will be regarded as confidential to the college.  Interviews with members of staff, where necessary, will be conducted in a confidential setting.

Sensitive information e.g. about medical conditions, family circumstances, legal & police matters relating to self or family, will be shared on a ‘need to know’ basis.  This will be a matter of judgement by the holder of the information, but where possible, the wishes of the student will be borne in mind.

Issues relating to child protection and safeguarding will be referred to the Designated Person (the Director of Students) and the Director will seek advice or make decisions accordingly.

Learners’ views

Learners views on the quality and content of information, advice and guidance provided by the College are sought formally on an annual basis through 2 student questionnaires.  The analysis of these questionnaires informs any change to the service provided.
